EDDIE JONATHAN GARCIA BORBÓN

EDDIE JONATHAN GARCIA BORBÓN (b.1991) received his Bachelors ​Degree in Musical Arts, with emphasis in Composition and Arrangements, from the Faculty of Arts (ASAB) at the University of the Francisco José de Caldas District. He was also a student of Mechatronic Engineering of the National University of Colombia, as well as a student of Master in Composition with new technologies of the International University of La Rioja. He is part of the research group "Research unit in the area of harmony" at the Francisco José de Caldas District University, is part of the Colombian Circle of Contemporary Music (CCMC), and has published articles related to computer applications and mathematics in the musical composition, specifically the modeling of harmonic spaces by the theory of graphs and their application in the algorithmic composition and evolutionary electronics.

Through his work, Eddie Jonathan explores electroacoustic music, algorithmic composition and the applications of evolutionary computing in music. As part of a scholarship he received from the Days of Contemporary Music of the Colombian Circle of Contemporary Music (CCMC) in 2016, and under the tutelage of the teacher Víctor Agudelo, he composed the work Three readings of the life for violin and piano, performed by the Colombian-Canadian duo Wapiti. He obtained a mention from the Center for Scientific Research and Development (CIDC) of the University of the District for the research project / creation "Symbiosis, composition for indeterminate instrument and sound entities".

In 2017, Eddie Jonathan was selected as a winner of the portfolio of stimuli for calls for artistic and cultural creation and research in the municipality of Zipaquira in the category: "Project and recording of an original and unpublished piece of music for children with a theme that rescues our Zipaquira identity for work." The winning work, El Zipa in Valle del Abra (composed for a Colombian Andean trio), was performed by the IMRDZ (Zipaquirá Municipal Sports and Recreation Institute.) In addition, Eddie Jonathan was also a winner of the stimulus Corazonarte2017 in the Creation category in Cundinamarca: "Composition of a work for choirs that exalts the memory of the heroine of Cundinamarquesa Policarpa Salavarrieta." The winning choral work, La Pola, was granted by the IDECUT (Departmental Institute of Culture and Tourism of Cundinamarca).
