DUNCAN PETERSEN-JONES (b. 1994) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and moved to the state of Michigan with his family when he was young. His interest in composition began during his teenage years, especially with a focus in writing for piano and orchestra. Duncan proceeded to pursue this dream in college and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Composition from Michigan State University in 2017, where he studied with Jere Hutcheson and Alexis Bacon. In 2019, Duncan graduated with a Master’s Degree in Composition at The University of Michigan, where he studied with Evan Chambers and Michael Daugherty.

Over the course of his music education, Duncan has also learned piano, double bass, guitar, and the bagpipes. Of note, he is a successful solo bagpipe competitor; has performed with The Glen Erin Pipe Band as well as Grand Traverse Pipes and Drums; and has published a book of bagpipe pieces entitled Duncan’s Piping Tunes: From the Competition to the Bar. When not composing, you can find Duncan competing in bagpipe competitions at the Grade 2 solo level as well as occasionally performing with the AC/DC cover band Icy/Dicey.
