GERITT W. DAVENPORT

 

GERITT W. DAVENPORT (b. 1997), pronounced as /Jer-it/, is an American composer and arranger from Rockdale, Texas. Davenport's work has been performed and can be heard throughout the United States and Internationally by a variety of professional and scholastic ensembles. His body of work currently includes music for the concert stage, film/tv, and the marching arts.

Davenport is a composer, producer, and educator maintaining an active writing schedule collaborating with performers, ensembles, and creatives alike. He is continually captivated by the unadulterated

"emotional experience" one feels when listening to a musical work. Constantly grasping to encapsulate such experience and the feelings around the ideas his compositions seek to elaborate upon. His concert and marching works are available through T.U.X. People's Music and his works for media can be found on all major streaming platforms.

He holds a degree from the University of North Texas where he studied music composition and was mentored by composers the likes of Kirsten Soriano Broberg, Joseph Klien, Louise Fristensky, Bruce Broughton, and Jacob Thiede. He has performed with numerous ensembles throughout the years such as the Rockdale Communities in Concert Band, Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps (2015-16), Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps (2017), the UNT Green Brigade, UNT African Percussion Ensemble, UNT “Grammy Nominated Funky Fresh Basketball Jazz Band”, and UNT Volleyball Band.

In addition to his career as a composer, Davenport is an active figure in both his local and broader music scenes. Among these involvements he is owner and publisher at T.U.X. People's Music Publishing and serves on the Vision Historic Preservation Foundation's Board of Directors where he chairs all Arts and Programming initiatives.

Davenport's professional associations include the Society of Composers Inc., American Composers Forum, and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
