KATAHJ COPLEY notes the following - "Music for me has always been this impactful thing in my life. It can soothe, it can enrage, it can quiet and it can evoke emotions that are beyond me and this world we live in. I believe that music is the ultimate source of freedom and imagination and the most freedom I have had as a musician is through composing. Composition is like me opening my heart and showing the world my spirit, my drive, and my passion."
Copley has accomplished just that in all of his musical pursuits. Since the premiere of his first composition Spectra in November 2017 by The University of West Georgia Saxophone Ensemble, Copley has been commissioned by groups such as the 1st Infantry Brass Choir in Ft. Riley, Kansas, The University of West Georgia Wind Ensemble, the Georgia State University Wind Ensemble, Axos Saxophone Quartet, and Admiral Launch Duo. Copley has also had several works performed by groups such as the Mt. Zion High School Wind Ensemble and the Carrollton High School Wind Ensemble.
Copley was selected to participate in the 2019 Rhode Island Recording Ensemble Summer Festival Workshop, where the premiere of his wind ensemble work Cerulea was recorded. In addition, Copley's wind ensemble fanfare Nova was performed at the 2020 College Band Director National Association Southern Division Conference by The University of Georgia Wind Ensemble, under the baton of Josh Byrd.
Copley is currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition and Music Education from The University of West Georgia.
