"My initial inspiration for composing "Fanfare for Earthrealm" came from my huge interest in the Mortal
Kombat video game franchise. I've always wanted to write a serious piece inspired by the video game, and this fanfare presented an opportunity to do so. When writing this piece, I had to continuously think about the performance venue. The Meyerson Symphony Center lobby is a huge shell of marble and other reverberant surfaces, and so I couldn't just write something TOO bombastic; otherwise, it would just sound like a garbled mess. One thing that I hope the audience ultimately takes away from hearing this work is that video games serve more than just entertainment. Yes, video games are fun, especially games like Mortal Kombat, but when used in a creative context, video games can serve as a world of inspiration for art." --from the composer
