QUINN MASON (b. 1996) is currently a student at the Texas Christian University School of Music where he studies composition with Blaise Ferrandino. He previously studied at Richland College with Jordan Kuspa. For four years, Quinn studied at the University of Texas-Dallas with Winston Stone, who guided him through the fundamentals of music theory and composition.
In June 2013, Quinn's Bulldog Fanfare was performed at his graduation ceremony from North Dallas High School. Quinn received The Dallas Foundation's Tommy Tranchin Award that summer, giving him the opportunity to work with UTD's Robert X. Rodriguez. In April 2015, Quinn was selected as a winner of the American Composers Forum NextNotes High School Competition, in which his winning piece was premiered at the Dallas Museum of Art. This also granted him the opportunity to work with composers such as Libby Larsen in Minneapolis and a second performance of the piece in June of that same year. In 2016, Quinn won first place in the Voices of Change 2016 Texas Young Composers Project for his piece Two Fleeting Daydreams. In 2017, Quinn was named a winner of the Texas A&M University Chamber Music Symposium Composition contest for his piece There's Been a Breach, premiered by the Atlantic Brass Quintet and giving him the opportunity to work with David Maslanka.
Quinn has received commissions by artists and groups such as Voces Intimae (a Dallas-based art song organization), the New Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and David Cooper, the principal horn player of the Berlin Philharmonic. His music has also received premieres and performances from the Cezanne Quartet and various bands at Southern Methodist University and the University of North Texas. Quinn has also worked as a copyist for the opera Wading Home by Mary Alice Rich (a Dallas composer); composed and published a series of bassoon studies performed and recorded by Kristian Oma Ronnes; and has had his music featured on WRR's radio program "New at Nine."
