TONY DOUBEK

Over the last 20 years, TONY DOUBEK has gained an eclectic collection of experience in music, social justice work, and coffee geekery. Experiencing the world as a transgender man has shaped his view of music’s role in the world, including its emotional expressions, its influences and impacts in art forms such as film and dance, and its unique place for supporting social justice causes. Doubek’s goal as a composer is to continue bringing trans representation to the composer community, to provide opportunities for other composers and artists from marginalized communities, and collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects addressing the biggest societal issues of the present day.

Doubek has worked on scores for contemporary ensembles, films, TV shows, theatrical productions, with several projects currently in production. In 2021, he received the MLC Film Festival Award for Best Original Production Score.

Upon initially discovering no additional transgender artists when he came out in 2012, and believing a full-time music career was not initially possible, Doubek earned a Political Science degree from University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point to focus on a career in activism and continue his deep involvement with the campus’s LGBTQ community. Upon discovering additional transgender artists after graduating, and understanding the importance of art in activism and social change, he returned to pursuing a full-time music career with the goal of using music to challenge listeners and the world to grow into a more equitable and compassionate society.
